about

In 1963, Edward Allan Thomson and Jane Shaw Blaikley celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary. To mark the occasion Edward employed a genealogist to trace their ancestors and draw up a family tree which, several generations later, has evolved into this website.

Edward was very keen on his family leaving records for their decendents, tales of everyday life and high adventure, and wrote several accounts intended for his own grandchildren (see sources). bluegumtree.com was created in the same spirit, as a means of keeping the stories alive.

Each section of the website is based on the same genealogical data but approaches it from a different angle:

People

Detailed personal profiles of each family member: birth, death, marriages, children and notes.

Much the data in this area is 'clickable', enabling you to follow cross-references to other people and to further information about the places featured.

Places

A geographical perspective on the births, deaths and marriages of our family. If the location of a person's birth, death or marriage is known, it will feature here.

The locations are initially grouped together by continent, from where it is possible to access the events associated with a specific county or settlement.

You can also get to this area by clicking on place names elsewhere on the website.

Events

A chronological list of significant events in our family, put into historical context.

To find out more about any member of the family who features here, just click on their name.
